If the person died at home, or in a hospice or care home, following confirmation of the death by a professional, usually a Doctor, we will arrange to collect your loved one and convey them to our chapel of Rest. The Doctor will issue a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death.
If the person died in Hospital, we may not be able to convey your loved one to our Chapel of Rest until the necessary documentation has been taken care of. You will need to make an appointment with Bereavement Services at the Hospital to arrange to collect the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death.
However if the Coroner is involved, regardless of where the death occurred, we may not be able to convey your loved one to our Chapel of Rest until all the necessary documentation has been taken care of. This might happen if the deceased has not been seen by by the Doctor during their last illness or if the certifying Doctor had not seen them within the last 14 days.
The Coroner will release the body once he/she is satisfied as to the cause of death. In certain circumstances he/she may order that a Post Mortem examination be carried out before releasing the body into our care. The certificate of cause of death will then be sent direct to the Registrar.
Your Funeral Director will advise you accordingly.
